Summary

"Liar" Tsubaki is trying to resolve her feelings for Kousei. She is upset to hear that he is leaving home to attend a high school with a proper music program, and would probably plan on studying abroad if there's nothing suitable for him in Japan. Tsubaki's mind is occupied by the thought of Kousei leaving her and drops into a state of despair. She is still thinking about Kousei when walking home with her boyfriend, Saitou, in awkward silence. Just when Tsubaki is about to open her mouth to break the ice, Saitou turns and says to her, "I'm in love with someone else." They break up and Tsubaki notices how deeply wounded Saitou is. Tsubaki comes to the music classroom and sits in front of the piano, trying to play "Clair de lune." Kousei walks in and starts playing the song perfectly and casually. Tsubaki sees Kousei and what he has overcome. She sees what the people around him has overcome. She feels that she's been left behind while everyone else has found their purpose and destination in life. She starts to cry. Kousei, still playing the piano, says, "don't worry, I'll be with you, I'll be by your side," he keeps on playing, "even when I'm not there, I'll be with you." Tsubaki knows that she has to move on and not let her time freeze in the past--the past when they were still children and thought that nothing in life would take them a part. She's determined to not give up, even if it's too late. Tsubaki makes up her mind that she wants to be with Kousei. At the same time, Kousei is trying to find excuses to visit Kaori in the hospital. He hesitates and leaves, and on his way home, a girl falls from the tree into his lap (cliche!!). He takes the girl home to Hiroko and the girl, who appears to be a big fan of Hiroko, immediately asks Hiroko to take her in as her student. Hiroko asks her to play something on the piano, Chopin or Bach, and the girls plays Chopin op25-5, the song Kousei played at the competition. The girl, seems to be in middle school, finishes the song with perfection and precision. Hiroko agrees to take her in (but with certain conditions, it seems). After Tsubaki's inner struggle and the introduction of a new character, we are back with Kaori. At the end of the episode, Kaori hums a tune and walks happily in the hospital corridor when all lights are off. And suddenly she falls. She is unable to stand up. Her legs are no loner hers to control. Kaori breaks down.

Japanese Otaku's Discussion on Ep 15

from Twitter & Other Social Media (translation).
This is an episode about the pain Tsubaki is going through right when she stops making her own choices. That is when her time stops. I so hope that this could have a happy ending with Kaori recovering from whatever illness she has.
The pacing of the lines are better in this episode and it's more interesting~ It is better that there's less of Kousei's inner monologue.
Will Tsubaki escape the fate of being the childhood friend with unrequited love? Kousei is still troubled by the troubles that he always has. And what role will the new character play in the story? It seems that Kaori has a more serious disease than expected...... I am looking forward to the next episode~~
At the end, I think Kaori's break down is too dramatic. I think it's better for her to show struggle in pressing down her tears in this scene On the other hand, Saitou (Tsubaki's boyfriend) is a really good person It's a waste for him to be with Tsubaki. There are no high school kids like him~
It's probably because Saitou is such a good person that Tsubaki is annoyed~ w
In this week's episode, when Tsubaki is talking to Saitou, she seems to be kind of apprehensive...... The acting where she whispers, "hmm... yes....." is awesome~!
Although the artwork is beautifully done, I do hope that the scene where Kaori is unable to stand can use something that delivers more impact. I was a bit confused about whether she is able to move or not.
I love the piano scenes. So if they are saving up energy in artwork to make better piano scenes I would be happy To be honest, compared to the school people, I like plots with the piano people more. It's more intense!
There are a lot of places in this anime that I feel I have to hold my breath.... Is it ok for the new character to have such a sudden appearance?
What does the episode on childhood friendship has anything to do with the whole story? It seems that although there's a feeling that she might lose, she'll still be with the main character in the end.
